Artist Biography
In this painting I am trying to build upon a spring plein air study of a local scene, Courtcliffe Park. I think of my plein air landscapes as “gestural landscapes”: paintings which evoke the spiritual connection that nature creates and at the same time portray the mood and sensory memories of a place.
Teaching art and photography for many years has made it second nature for me to focus on patterns, evocative moods and movements of light and colour while I try to capture a moment in time.
I am currently having fun painting scenes from my international travels as well as the four seasons of the beautiful Canadian landscape in my own backyard. I enjoy sharing my love of art with students of all ages and teach a variety of painting and drawing media.
