Hamilton, ON – Delta Secondary School, one of Hamilton’s most cherished educational institutions, marked its 100th anniversary at 1284 Main Street East this month in celebration of legacy, learning, and community. Originally built in 1924 and closed in 2019, Delta stands as a pillar of neighbourhood pride.

A landmark rich in heritage, Delta quickly became a cornerstone of the community, known for its academic rigor, commercial education programs, and its motto, Gnothi SeKnow Thyself.

On Tuesday, June 24th, 2025 at 10:00 AM, Delta alumni and community members joined Mayor Andrea Horwath, Ward 4 Councillor Tammy Hwang, Ward 4 Trustee – Abby Zaitley and representatives from New Horizon Development Group (NHDG) and Losani Homes to unearth a time capsule buried 25 years ago in the year 2000.

This special moment was celebrated on the front east lawn of the school’s campus and reflects Delta’s impact on the community over the decades. The time capsule contained a wide range of items including personal letters for past students, a DOS computer and even map of Hamilton, prior to the city’s amalgamation. Contents of the time capsule will be donated to the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board archives.

“We are honoured to support this chapter, and continue to celebrate and preserve Delta’s history,” said Jeff Paikin, NHDG President and Co-Founder.

As the City of Hamilton reflects on 100 years of Delta Secondary School, this milestone is about more than looking back – it’s about honouring the past while building a future grounded in respect for community, history and place.

While the school may have closed its doors to students, NHDG and Losani Homes are ensuring that its spirit and story remain alive for generations to come.
