On September 8th, the atmosphere at 870 Queenston Road was filled with music and conversation as New Horizon Development Group (NHDG) and project partners, the Zurini family of Re/Max Escarpment Realty, celebrated the completion of the rooftop.
The ground-breaking of 870 Queenston Road was celebrated by the team in Fall 2021, since which NHDG has remediated the contaminated site, worked with the Hamilton Conservation Authority to completely revitalize the ravine residing behind the property, and completed the construction of the 14-storey building’s concrete structure.
NHDG continues to set the standard for sustainable building across the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area (GTHA). 870 Queenston is anticipated to hold the distinction of being the City of Hamilton’s very first open-market, multi-residential high-rise building to achieve LEED certification.
In keeping with its sustainability commitment, the entire building will be supported through geothermal heat exchange, a feature which the majority of NHDG buildings contain and one of the leading components in targeting the qualification of LEED certification.
This site also boasts several other unique benefits to the Battlefield neighbourhood. Residents of the future rental building will be steps away from the future Hamilton LRT and within a convenient walking distance to many essential amenities. To enhance the accessibility of these new homes, 20% of the rental suites will be dedicated to affordable housing, with below-market rental rates.
870 Queenston’s rooftop‘s completion marks a significant milestone in the development’s progress. NHDG and Remax Escarpment Realty moves one step closer to welcoming over 200 new residents to sustainable and affordable rental homes in Stoney Creek.
