On May 17th, New Horizon Development Group (NHDG) celebrated a significant milestone at North Park, their development in partnership with Habitat for Humanity. The site came alive with excitement as nearly 60 people gathered for the ground-breaking ceremony. The two semi-detached homes being constructed will soon belong to two deserving families selected by Habitat for Humanity. NHDG’s commitment to building these two homes at no cost to Habitat was a testament to the power of partnership and generosity within the community.

This project has been made a reality thanks to the efforts of NHDG’s incredible team of trades and suppliers, who have not only donated their time but also close to 75% of the cost to build these two homes. Under site supervisor Bruce Wells’ expert leadership, these homes will be complete within approximately four months’ time.

The families who will soon be moving into these homes were present at the ground-breaking ceremony. They shared moving speeches that echoed their excitement and gratitude for the prospect of safe, new residences. Other speakers included Habitat Hamilton CEO, Sean Ferris; NHDG President, Jeff Paikin; and MP Hamilton East – Stoney Creek, Chad Collins. To watch the speeches, follow this link.

Habitat for Humanity Hamilton CEO, Sean Ferris, took the opportunity to shed light on the rigorous application and interview process that Habitat candidates undergo before being approved as Habitat home buyers. To qualify for the life-changing home-buying assistance provided by Habitat, families must volunteer their time in the community for a minimum of 500 hours monitored by Habitat.

This journey continues beyond the ground-breaking ceremony. In the months to come, as these homes take shape, a sense of anticipation will build within the community. When the construction dust settles, there will be another celebration – the key ceremony. It will mark the completion of this initiative, and the families will finally unlock the doors to their new homes. This story serves as a reminder that when we build homes we also build a sense of community and stability.

This gift to Habitat for Humanity illustrates NHDG’s continued commitment to creating affordable and attainable housing throughout the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area (GTHA). On average, close to 20 per cent of NHDG’s homes currently in active construction sites are considered for affordable sales or rentals. With each new NHDG site, the company strives to ensure home ownership is possible for all and hopes their contribution to the housing mix will help ease pressure on the GTHA’s urban housing markets.
